Dear ProfessorLewis, My name is Rosie Bentley and I am currently attending Nagel Middle School, in Ohio. In my social studies class we are doing a project on problems and solutions in The Roman Republic. My topic is High price for military and war and I was wondering if you could please answer some of my questions on modern warfare:1) Does the cost of war affect our infrastructure?2) according to my research we are 16 million dollars in debt, what affects does this have on us?3)How much money can the U.S army request for their budget?
Thanks so very much for your time!Sincerely,Rosie Bentley Dear Rosie, I am not a historian of the Roman Republic. However, yes. Defense spending takes money away from domestic projects, such has highway construction, health care, and other such projects. Defense spending is over $600 billion annually. It is estimated that we spent 3.3 trillion dollars on the two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last decade. I am not exactly sure of the Army's annual budget. It is a major part of the $600 billion spent annual on defense. Good luck with you project. Prof. Lewis The romans need to have a limit on the people that join the army, not only do they need to have almost like a “training camp” to see who is fit enough to even be in the army, they need to lower taxes so that not everyone is so in debt that they are forced to join. Infrastructure has been occurring since the romans budget for war is so over the top. They need specific people in the army just to focus building aqueducts and other projects, maybe your first year of the army that is what you do to show your “support. They also need a smaller budget, they should try fundraisers or asking people for some help. The money they spend on war is so much that they are forgetting more important things. http://prezi.com/hc8vx8zvqexf/present/?follow=crt_1idcwx7a&auth_key=y982enn#0
